This section includes some of my extra
hunting related experiences.
1993
My friend Jim senior showing Jim junior how to handle a shotgun.
Mid 1990s
Sister Lauren loading up a 12 gauge shotgun for some clay pigeon shooting.
Mid 1990s
Lauren posing behind a turkey target that her and I both shot. Real turkey hunting is definitely harder!!
Mid 1990s
Me shooting clay pigeons.
1995
Dean and guide packing out his big moose. It took them a few days and many hiking trips to pack out all the meat. They even had a few tense moments with a grizzly bear that was trying to claim the carcass.
1997
James shooting clay pigeons.
1997
Dad having fun shooting clay pigeons.
1997
Me small game hunting.
1997
This image probably looks a little strange at first glance ... but there is a good explanation. The PA game commission has a few cable crossings in the area we hunt. James is inching his way across a creek at one of these crossings. I soon followed.
1997
James posing at a rocky PA creek.
1997
Me posing at the same creek.
1997
The PA area we hunt used to be an artillery range back in the WWII era. James is posing next to an unexploded shell that he found.
At the time... the army was asking hunters to report any shell discoveries ... so I called and gave them the GPS coordinates. The army said they would go in and blow-up this shell after the hunting season.
1997
James and I froze our butts off on this PA day. We didn't see any bucks ... but a small fawn did feed with-in a few feet of us.
1997
Kevin bagged this big old PA doe. She was huge for a doe ... probably had a live weight of about 180 lbs!
1998
Me and my big pheasant
1998
Dad shooting a 44 magnum.
1998
A close up of my first turkey. Believe it or not ... the colors on a turkey's head is what inspired Ben Franklin to color our nation's flag red, white and blue. A true fact.
1998
This ground hog and a 2nd one are the only animals that I killed but did not eat. My brother and his wife were having major garden problems ... so they asked me to help. We first tried a humane Have-A-Heart catch and release trap. As you can see from the 2 arrows in this ground hog's back that the Have-A-Heart trap idea was not working.
1998
Here is my first racked buck and first deer with a bow ... a PA spike with 7" points.
1998
The next 3 photos are of a PA bear that kind of pushed me out of the woods. There were a few tense moments at first ... but after a while I realized that he just wanted a hand out. I had eaten a chocolate bar about 1/2 before he showed up ... so he probably smelled some good food.
I was bow hunting deer about a 1/4 mile in from the state road behind a housing development. The bear was probably used to being fed by humans ... so I think this is why he acted so strange. I cross paths with bears almost every season ... but 95% of the time they run away when they sense my presence. This bear was different because he decided to follow me all the way back to my truck.
I didn't have a camera with me during most of the encounter ... but I managed to grab my camera out of my parked truck as he emerged from the timber. I got about 6 or 7 photos ... but these 3 were the best. I had this photo enlarged and framed.
1999
James crow hunting.
1999
James and I helped the PA Game Commission load this road killed bear onto this truck. The bear had Jersey ear tags and a radio collar.
1999
Here is a beaver dam & lodge on one of the lakes in my hunting PA area.
1999
This crazy PA hen scared the s#!t out of me! I quietly stepped over a log and she came exploding out from the other side. Turns out ... she was sitting on a nest full of eggs. She instantly started attacking my feet ... so I got out of there real fast. I managed to quickly snap this shot with a disposable camera. Boy was she a pissed off mom!!
1999
Me sighting my rifle for the upcoming gun season.
1999
Dean and Brooke at the range. Dean was a meticulous reloader ... so his bullet groups were always super tight.
1999
Here is James filling out his tag after we simultaneously bagged our PA hen turkeys on this trail.
1999
I bagged this hen with a 22 during the Fall season.
1999
Four turkeys!
1999
My first big bodied buck taken during Michigan's firearm season. His live weight was about 200 lbs.
2000
My 2nd PA turkey.
Look how big he looks in the back of my pick-up truck.
2000
I'm all smiles here! My 2nd best buck to date ... a 90 inch 8 pointer taken during Wisconsin's archery season!
You can see how big and fat he was from this camera angle. His live weight was probably over 200 lbs.
2000
James's downed PA buck.
2000
I bagged this PA doe with my 3030 Winchester lever action rifle.
2001
James wanted to see how well his turkey camo blended in ... so he asked me to snap this shot.
2001
My best buck to date ... a thick racked 110 inch 8 pointer taken during North Carolina's firearm season!
2003
I came across this bear while spring turkey hunting. I got some great video of him feeding on grass in an open field. I stalked to within 75 yards before he saw me and ran away.
2003
Here is my parent's Jack Russell Terrier (Charlie) chasing me in their backyard.
2003
Charlie loves chasing things ... including me, deer or any other animals that venture into my parent's backyard.
2003
He barks like crazy and claws the back door when he sees deer grazing on his turf!
2003
Lucky for these 2 PA does that I was hunting turkeys on this fall day. They crossed 30 yards in front of my turkey blind.
2003
James worked real hard for this deer. He bagged the deer only a few hundred yards from his truck.
2003
James bagged these 2 deer on the same day! He took the 1st deer during mid day and the 2nd in the evening. Lucky guy! I've never had a double header on the same day.
2005
Here is my hunting blind. I took the photo from the very spot my 2005 buck was last standing.
